Leicester City transfer’surprise’ revealed after international impact

In the most recent Leicester City updates, a defender marked his first Championship appearance of the season in a 2-0 victory over Stoke City just before the international break.

Former Leicester City goalkeeper and Australia international, Mark Schwarzer, expressed his astonishment at the limited game time Harry Souttar has received this season. Souttar, a center-back, had his first start of the season in the Carabao Cup, which ended in defeat to Liverpool at the end of the previous month. His first Championship appearance this season was against his former club, Stoke City, prior to the international break.

Before these recent appearances, Souttar was conspicuously absent from the previous seven Championship matchday squads. He was rumored to be moving to Rangers during the summer transfer window, where he would have joined his brother, John, but the move never materialized, and he remained with Leicester City.

Despite the limited playing time at his club, Souttar has been consistently selected to represent Australia in the international games this season. He played the full 90 minutes in a match against England at Wembley Stadium and even scored a goal in a 2-0 victory over New Zealand.

Australia is gearing up for the Asian Cup in January. In anticipation of this tournament, Mark Schwarzer expressed his surprise at Souttar not being a regular feature for Leicester City this season and his lack of a summer move.

Schwarzer remarked, “Surely it’s going to be a big concern. I mean, Harry’s certainly not getting minutes for Leicester. I can’t understand how he’s not in that Leicester City starting 11. And then, secondly, I can’t believe he hasn’t found another club. That someone else hasn’t come in for him and said, ‘You know what? The way he played at that World Cup, we’ve got to snap him up straight away.’ So that does surprise me.”

Souttar has now rejoined Leicester City as they prepare for their next Championship match. Enzo Maresca’s team is heading to South Wales to face Swansea City on Saturday, with the aim of extending their lead at the top of the Championship.
