Newcastle’s legal loophole may help Sandro Tonali, who is set to serve a 10-month ban but can still play this weekend.
A Sandro Tonali loophole may be exploited bya head of their match against Wolves on Saturday, as the Italian authorities have not yet banned the midfield player due to his gambling charges.
The Italian midfielder, who played for AC Milan, has admitted to betting on football games involving his own team; however, there is no evidence to suggest that the Azzurri star engaged in match-fixing.
He faces a 10-month suspension from football.
The former San Siro mastermind became the most expensive Italian player ever when he joined the Premier League team in the summer for a reported £52 million, strengthening Newcastle’s midfield treakspo
Due to his actions, Tonali is now expected to miss a significant amount of time on the sidelines following just 12 games for the Magpies.
Despite media speculation, Eddie Howe has revealed that the Italian authorities have not yet banned their man, so it’s possible that he will make one final appearance.
Prior to Newcastle’s encounter with Wolves on Saturday, Howe stated: “We haven’t received official confirmation as a football club yet.
We are in limbo, waiting for confirmation to come through, having heard the rumors and the news but not receiving any word from the Italian authorities.
It’s likely that he will be available tomorrow. Before the ban is put into effect, a few things still need to occur.
“When he entered the game against Dortmund, he was bright. He has had excellent training performances ever since this incident.
He is still in the same general mood, though I’m sure he goes through tough periods.
“That proves that no one can predict what the future holds. It’s a very important lesson.
