Fifteen years ago, it was the Manchester United supporters who gave a wild performance to “Champions of England, champions of Europe”.

Standing in the away section at Old Trafford on Sunday was the only section singing it.

Old Trafford regulars would have taken offense at some of the City chants, which included “Old Trafford is falling down,” “Champions again, ole, ole, ole,” “City won three in a row,” and “Champions of Europe – we know what we are.

” There would be more “ole”s after the stoppage-time.

Another was “Mind the gap”. Despite the fact that the difference is only nine points, City and United are so far apart that they essentially play different sports.

Ever the presenter, Alan Keegan, proclaimed United “the greatest football club in the world” before kickoff. One of the billings that precedes City is what their supporters would prefer to have.

Over the last ten years, City has won so many games by simply showing up at M16. The victories in derbies from 2014, 2019 and 2021 can be added to this one.

Erik ten Hag is having weekly self-doubts after being called names and called out for being an f—–g clown.

For the seventh time in the previous nine home games, Ten Hag made a half-time substitution, and this was the fourth consecutive game that Scott McTominay finished low after starting high. A center-back was playing left defense.

ADVOCATEErik ten Hag’s decisions are causing Manchester United to regress. On one of his worst days as manager, ten Hag watched his team lose 3-0 to Manchester City at Old Trafford.

The start was indicated by the stoppage time.

United’s decline has been so severe that they have started using Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred counterattacking strategy.

United were completely outclassed, with Christian Eriksen foolishly starting in midfield alongside the slow-moving Amrabat.

Ten Hag disregarded the midfield player United had invested £60 million in back in July.

What was more expensive was the strange defense he chose.

It was ‘tactical’ for Raphael Varane to be demoted at Jonny Evans’ expense, who was 35.

Playing in his first Old Trafford derby since his expulsion in October 2011, Evans bought the decoy run that allowed Erling Haaland to nod in the six-yard box unmarked.

Haaland teed up Phil Foden, and Evans was caught off guard. Evans was spared by City as they only scored half as

Five years ago, Evans and Harry Maguire were Leicester’s starting center halves under Claude Puel.

It is puzzling that Ten Hag continues to use Victor Lindelof as a backup left back instead of specialist Sergio Reguilon.

It’s understandable why United was so out of balance when facing the best group of attackers in club football.

Supporters of United made every effort to remind Haaland of the consequences his father faced at the hands of Roy Keane, as well as the 115 Premier League charges that loomed over City. “You cheating b——s, you know what you are,” they yelled. Stretford End was encouraging all the way to the finish.

The Manchester clubs performed to the best of their abilities as a result of the commemoration of Sir Bobby Charlton. Many in the stands will have been teary-eyed by the sight of Brian, Kidd, Paddy Crerand, Alex Stepney, John Aston Jr., Tony Book, and Mike Summerbee.

The surfer flag that United supporters unfurled in the Stretford End as a tribute to “the finest English footballer the world has ever seen” was cheered by City supporters.

The players for United could not match their supporters.

The sight of a “Sir Bobby” mosaic brought back memories of one of the most notorious performances at Old Trafford: “more goals, please.” Right now, that would be a pertinent message.

Diogo Dalot, Scott McTominay, and Hojlund made poor decisions in the first ten minutes of the game, which has led to United scoring eleven goals in ten Premier League games.

Rashford backed Hojlund once more in the lead, but Hojlund chose to take a safer pass.

To the dismay of United supporters, Rashford took a long time to get back onside because he was so horrified.

The callowness on the 20-year-old Hojlund’s face was evident on both ends. His unnecessary drag on Rodri was flagged as a penalty by VAR, and his run after Phil Foden’s misdirected pass was derailed.

The main thing was that United’s ambition with their striker selection was restricted; if Harry Kane had received the ball, there would have been a goal or a penalty and a red card.

The pressure is too great on Hojlund, who hasn’t scored in seven Premier League games.

Fans of City weren’t done yet. They called out the missing Glazers, and they played a version of a different chant that United used to own: “You’re not famous anymore.”
