News now: Liam Scales talks about how he nearly left Celtic due to interest from Aberdeen.

Liam Scales, a defender for Celtic, has opened out about his near-leave from the Hoops during the summer transfer window.

Since being thrust into action in August due to a center-back injury crisis, he has grown to be a vital member of the Parkhead team’s defense.

The Irishman stated that the Pittodrie team was eager to have him back for another season after spending the previous one on loan at Aberdeen.

“I suppose at the start of the year I think I came back into pre-season with Celtic and most people thought I was going to go back to Aberdeen,” he said in an interview with The Irish Independent.

“I believe I’ve surprised myself in that I may not have been fully involved at first.

However, after a few injuries, I was thrust into the fray and performed admirably, maintaining my position ever since.

“When my loan ended, I spoke with them, and they expressed their desire for me to return for a year or 18 months so they could move on.

I really enjoyed Aberdeen, as they are an incredible football team.”

“I’m glad it worked out better for me now because I was really looking forward to trying to go back there and do that.

Being a player for Celtic is huge. They are all very proud of me and my family, and I am proud of myself as well.

“There’s a strong fan base in Ireland, and there’s a connection there being Irish. It’s fantastic that I am sort of representing Ireland at Celtic.

I’m attempting to savor every moment of it because I have no idea how long it will endure.
