Goalkeeper Jon Obika, who made a comeback, says Motherwell must work together to stop their current losing streak.
The striker for Motherwell, Jon Obika, acknowledges that the Steelmen will need to pull together if they are to snap their nine-game losing streak.
The 33-year-old returned from a hamstring injury on Saturday in the Premiership match against Hearts, but he was unable to stop his team’s losing streak, which saw them drop to second place in the standings during the international break after a 2-1 loss.
After taking two of the 27 available points, the team’s next game, on November 25, must travel to Celtic Park to play the champions and current league leaders in order to avoid reaching the unwelcome 10-game milestone.
Obika is adamant that everyone is in this together, and that turning around their fortunes will require cooperation from both on and off the field.
The Englishman stated: “We are going through a tough period at the moment but we say to one another in the dressing room that we have to look to ourselves to get us through this.”
His team hasn’t experienced victory since September 3.
“We have to believe in each other, and that is what will get us through this; it will be the players, the gaffer, and the coaches.”
“Until Hearts scored a goal, I didn’t really think there was anything in the first half. It was evident in the latter half.
Nobody likes to lose, so there will inevitably be frustrations.
However, everyone learns to move on, and we will all work together to cheer each other on as we go into training.
“We know what we need to do to get these wins and to start putting points on the board.”
Obika made his first appearance since August against the Jambos, coming off the bench in the second half.
He says he is determined to score goals again to help propel Well back up the table.
“Being out of the side does make you hungry to come back,” he continued.
It is our responsibility to perform well on a Saturday because the manager and the staff provide everything we need to play.
I am eager to regain my position on that team and to receive additional minutes.
“I recently had a lengthy conversation with David Henderson, the physiotherapist, and he’s been able to restore my sense of sharpness.
“Now it’s all about getting that match fitness back and it’s now time to get that and start scoring goals.”
