In negotiations for a new Brentford contract, Ivan Toney is asking a release clause.

Toney’s representatives have held negotiations with Arsenal and Chelsea over a transfer; Brentford’s asking price of more than £80 million is likely to prevent a January departure.

Brentford is the striker’s contract employer through 2025.

As he continues to press for a departure from the team, Ivan Toney will insist on a release clause in any negotiations with Brentford on a new deal, 90min understands.

With his current contract expiring in 18 months, Toney is eager to leave Brentford as soon as possible.

Arsenal and Chelsea have expressed interest in Toney and have both had discussions with his representatives.

In order to sell Toney in January, Brentford is willing to seek more than £80 million—a sum that is said to have surprised the striker.

With his 28th birthday coming up in March, Toney’s winter transfer is probably out of the question due to the hefty asking price, therefore the forward for the Bees is now exploring other possibilities to secure his future.

Any extension would be advantageous to both parties since it would allow Brentford to maintain Toney’s value and prevent him from playing out the remaining 12 months of his current contract.

Toney would also likely benefit from a proper release clause if it helped him transfer in the future and secure a raise in compensation.

In an effort to hang onto their star striker, Brentford is willing to offer Toney a new deal; however, a lot will depend on their willingness to include a release clause and how much they value Toney.

Toney is still eager to leave the team in January, but he worries that his high asking price would turn away potential bidders. It is known that Chelsea and Arsenal are considering other options.

Both of the London heavyweights have scouted Santiago Gimenez of Feyenoord, while Chelsea, who are major fans of Victor Osimhen of Napoli, are keeping an eye on the Nigerian international as he continues his own convoluted contract discussions.

Due to his gambling infractions, Toney is still barred from competitive action and cannot return until January 17.

He would be available to play back-to-back games against Chelsea and Arsenal in early March if he stays with the Brentford first team.
