Journalist: “Unreliable” Anthony Martial may receive a “lifeline” from Manchester United in their match against Everton.
Richard Fay claims that in Manchester United’s match against Everton on November 26, Anthony Martial might be given a “lifeline.”
The journalist stated on Thursday, November 16, on the Manchester Evening News website that it would make “little sense” to risk Rasmus Hojlund against the Toffees following the Danish forward’s injury sustained on Saturday, November 11, in the team’s 1-0 victory over Luton Town.
He went on to say that because the 27-year-old Martial didn’t impress the Dutchman the previous season, he has been labeled as “unreliable,” but Fay hinted that if he doesn’t start at Goodison Park, his future might be at another location.
United will already be without the suspended Marcus Rashford for their must-win clash with Galatasaray three days later, so there would be little sense in risking Hojlund against Everton unless they absolutely had to,” said Fay.
“It means Erik ten Hag might need to find an attacking alternative at Goodison Park and it could mean another lifeline for Anthony Martial.
“The Frenchman has been largely out of favour since Ten Hag arrived at the club and wasted his best opportunity of impressing the manager with an underwhelming campaign last year.
While it is clear that Martial has a lot of talent, he has been deemed unreliable for both his strike rate and availability, and he is quite clearly not a striker that can be relied upon at such a level anymore.
“Martial won’t be deluded about his future if he can’t even get off to a start at Everton while Hojlund is rested.
Seize the chance and seize it, and he may have one last chance to make amends. Not that he ought to.
