AC Milan’s ownership and management reportedly have plans to add a few players in January because they view winning the Champions League as their first priority.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (see below), the present owners view competing in the top European competition as both a financial necessity and a source of pride.

They are aware that, on those unforgettable nights, the stadium is packed and that everyone is looking on.

Reaching the round of 16 ensures around €10 million in UEFA prize money, which can be combined to ticket sales to treble profits.

For instance, the first leg of the semi-final between Real Madrid and Inter brought in €10.4 million at the box office.

That would be a welcome addition to the budget, particularly considering that the club intends to step in in January.

The club was persuaded to bring in a striker who can ensure goals because of the attack’s shortcomings.

The player selected is Jonathan David, whose contract expires in 2025.

Due to his struggles this season—he has scored just two goals in 12 Ligue 1 games, compared to 24 goals the previous season—his asking price has dropped from €60 million to €40 million.

There are other contenders for the defense as well, including Benoît Badiashile, Lloyd Kelly of Bournemouth, and Jakub Kiwior of Arsenal, who is unlikely to depart in January.

The 22-year-old, who nearly cost Chelsea €40 million two years ago, is still on the bench after suffering a protracted injury in 2023.

Milan, who have previously trailed him, are receptive and might attempt to negotiate a loan.
