Press Release: Cedar Rapids, Iowa The top-seeded Cowley College volleyball team defeated Scottsdale (AZ) Community College, the second-seeded team in the national tournament, 25-9, 23-25, 25-18, 18-25, and 18-16 in the championship game of the NJCAA Division II Volleyball National Championships on Saturday in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

The Tigers were itching for retribution after falling to Scottsdale in the national tournament the previous year.

Cowley won the first set 25–9, coming out on fire. But the Artichokes rallied to take the second set 25–23.

After righting the ship, Cowley won set three, 25–18. Scottsdale responded once more, winning set four 25–18 to force a fifth set.

Before winning set five 18–16 to win the national championship, the Lady Tigers would have three set points in the fifth and final set.

Cowley was in a similar circumstance in 2021, when the Lady Tigers had a 41-0 record and were headed to the national championship game. However, they were defeated. They completed the season with a perfect 41-0 record after winning in five sets this time.

Scottsdale had a 28-1 record at the end of the regular season.

Cowley has its first-ever undefeated season in the history of the program after the victory over Scottsdale. In addition, it was the third overall and first national title for the Lady Tigers since 2013.

Throughout the season, Cowley only lost five sets. In their two years at the school, the sophomores have won 82 games, two district crowns, and now a national championship.

Rosanna Papa of Cowley won the Most Valuable Player award during the competition. In the final game, the top assist earner in the country totaled 52 assists.

Anna Kiss contributed 20 kills, while Sara Puskas recorded a match-high 22. Laura Bonomi finished with 15 kills and 15 digs for a double-double.

The Coach of the Tournament award went to Coach Gream.
