Final seven games will determine a lot for the Falcons, Arthur Smith, and Desmond Ridder.
The Falcons could lose a fourth game to the Saints, thereby ending their chances of making the playoffs, and head into the bye week with a three-game losing streak. During the next seven games, a lot will be at stake for the club, Arthur Smith, and Desmond Ridder.
First, let’s address the simplest: the team. The Falcons may host the first-ever playoff game in Mercedes Benz Stadium and snap a five-year postseason skid. That starts in Week 12 in Atlanta against a division opponent, but even if they lose, the season is still salvageable.
As a unit, the Falcons stand to gain more than simply a postseason berth. Regardless of the playoffs, if the team finishes with momentum or on a winning streak, they can still rescue the 2023 season.
Let’s go on to the easiest one now: Desmond Ridder. For Week 12 and probably the remainder of the season, he will start as quarterback.
There is a lot on the line for him in these final seven games. Either his career might be saved, or he could be assigned to backup roles going forward.
The Falcons’ success is contingent upon Ridder’s leadership, and he is aware that winning football games is the sole objective. His ability to start quarterback plays is in jeopardy.
Let’s go on to the most challenging one, Arthur Smith. While I don’t think his job is in jeopardy as his quarterback’s is, these next seven games will undoubtedly affect his future employment security.
In 2024, Smith’s seat might start to feel warm if the season collapses in any way, either on the inside or the outside. Smith will, however, have a little more leash if the Falcons win the season or advance to the playoffs.
Arthur Blank is undoubtedly hoping for better than 7–10, which Arthur Smith has recorded in back-to-back seasons, after making significant personnel investments this offseason.
Although Blank isn’t a patient owner, he is also getting older. Everyone has a lot riding on the remaining seven games for the Falcons.
