Jets’ third-down conversion rate is at its lowest level since 1991.
After 10 games, the Jets are 30-for-131 on third downs this season; Pro Football Reference has data for those situations dating back to the 1991 season, and the 22.9 percent conversion rate is the lowest for any team over that span.
The Jets went 0-for-11 on third downs in Sunday’s 32-6 loss to the Bills, and their futility in those situations is at a historical level.
The Jets must surpass that percentage in order to avoid finishing the season in the cellar, as both the 2005 49ers and the 2002 Cowboys converted 24 percent of their third downs.
For the most of those third down attempts, Zach Wilson was the quarterback; however, after Sunday’s defeat, the club switched things up.
Tim Boyle replaced Wilson in the third quarter, and following the game, head coach Robert Saleh stated that the team will decide on Monday on the starting lineup for the NFL’s first-ever Black Friday game against the Dolphins.
