A potential £50 million Leeds United compensation claim will be decided by the Everton points deduction committee.

According to The Times, the same people who determined Everton’s ten-point deduction will also determine whether applicant clubs Burnley, Leicester City, Southampton, Nottingham Forest, and Leeds United are entitled to monetary compensation for the Toffees’ violation of sustainability and profitability regulations.

The same commission, which included David Phillips KC, Alan Greenwood, and Nick Igoe, will determine whether clubs pursuing compensation claims are entitled to damages, according to a report in the national newspaper.

This commission also rendered the largest points-related penalty in Premier League history last week.

As the two sides fought to remain in the Premier League during 2021/22, Leeds was one of five clubs that had previously stated their intention to take the Merseyside club to court.

Any compensation claim Leeds makes is rumored to be less profitable than those of Burnley and Leicester City, who were both demoted in the last two seasons in which Everton avoided going down to the Championship. Both teams finished in 18th place.

Prior to this, commission head Phillips expressed his satisfaction with the applicant clubs’ possible claims for compensation, but he made it clear that any damages claims would be handled independently of Everton’s Premier League punishment. From last Friday, when the points deduction decision was made, teams have four weeks to legally launch a damages suit against Everton.

If Southampton and Nottingham Forest pursue their claims, they are likely to be rejected because Saints finished last season in the bottom spot while Forest finished in 16th place, and the Everton points deduction from previous season did not affect either team’s finish.

Conversely, Leicester and Burnley may be entitled to damages of up to £50 million, which is an approximate estimate of lost wages from one
