Newcastle Council expresses dissatisfaction over the removal of Super League Magic Weekend from the city.
NEWCASTLE COUNCIL have expressed their disappointment at Super League’s Magic Weekend being taken away from the city.
The Rugby Football League (RFL) revealed yesterday that Leeds United’s Elland Road will host the Magic Weekend in 2024 over the weekend of August 17–18.
The council of the city hopes that the Magic Weekend will come back to Newcastle in the future, so the event will not be held there for a record eighth time.
“Naturally we are disappointed Magic Weekend won’t be returning to Newcastle next year,” said Coun. Alex Hay, Newcastle City Council’s Cabinet Member for a Thriving City, in an interview with Chronicle Live.
“Over the previous three years, our city has proudly hosted the rugby league event. It has regularly given our residents and supporters an unforgettable weekend.
“I’m sure Elland Road will be a blast for supporters of rugby league. Our city is certain that it will host the tournament again in the future because of our excellent relationship with the Super League.
The Magic Weekend will take place in Yorkshire for the first time.
