The young Sea Eagles have a difficult beach session.
Manly’s SG Ball squad has already benefited from a strenuous beach session overseen by a seasoned military officer.
Under the direction of new coach Nathan Hogan, the U19s team has been practicing hard in preparation for the upcoming season, which begins in February.
Colonel Matt Stevens led a beach workout at North Curl Curl last Saturday for Hogan and his coaching staff’s players as a way to break up their preseason training schedule.
Stevens is the President of the Army Rugby League in addition to being a member of the Special Forces Group.
He spoke to the coaching and playing staff on brothers, teamwork, accountability, honesty, and respect.
Hogan stated that the SG Ball team has already shown some encouraging indicators.
“Our preseason has gotten off to a terrific start. In addition to focusing on developing athletes’ strength, health, and talents, we also want to create the ideal environment and establish a manly mindset in them, according to Hogan.
“Our beach fitness session was excellent for team building and leadership development in our young playing group, in addition to being a test of character and strong will. The lads cherished it.
Hogan continued by saying that since coming as an assistant coach for 2024, former Manly full-back and premiership winner Brett Stewart has also had a beneficial effect on the SG Ball team.
“Brett’s sharing of his vast knowledge and experience as a member of the coaching staff has proven to be invaluable,” stated Hogan.
“The players have genuinely valued his participation and input.”
Next season, Stewart will join Manly’s NRL football staff as a Mentor Positional Coach.
