There was a momentous moment early in the Oklahoma City Thunder’s game against the Chicago Bulls on Wednesday.
With his second basket of the game, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander moved past veteran starting forward Serge Ibaka on the Thunder scoring record in less than four minutes of play.
It’s significant to remember that this does not cover Seattle Supersonics history.
With OKC, Gilgeous-Alexander has accrued 6,056 points in his career. Ibaka finished his seven seasons with the Thunder with 6,054 points.
Russell Westbrook (18,859 points) and Kevin Durant (17,566 points) are the top two scorers.
For Gilgeous-Alexander, who is only in his fifth season with the Thunder, this is a very remarkable accomplishment.
Gaining rapid traction on the list can be achieved by averaging 31.1 points throughout the previous two seasons.
