Despite his misgivings and incredulity, Enzo Maresca thought Jamie Vardy had “goals in his blood.”

Even Jamie Vardy missed chances to put Leicester City up against Watford, so the manager admitted that he didn’t think it would be his team’s day.

Even though Jamie Vardy may have goals “in his blood,” Enzo Maresca wasn’t sure his number nine would score against Watford after he squandered two fantastic opportunities.

Vardy scored two goals in the dying minutes to help Leicester City resume their winning ways. He firstly poked in a rebound from a set-piece and then forcefully scored an injury-time penalties.

But before that, he had twice scored spectacularly from inside the six-yard box, with Maresca falling to his knees in shock on the first of those attempts.

As City created a plethora of opportunities, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also struck the post. Maresca acknowledges that he did not think it would be his team’s day, but he was confident that Vardy would not lose his head despite scoring twice. Ultimately, City managed to make the breakthrough.

“To be honest, I didn’t think we were going to win that night when I saw Jamie missing twice,” Maresca admitted.

“Aside from Jamie, you anticipate that every member of the team will have lost opportunities! The good news is that even though we missed our opportunities, we persisted. In the end, we managed to score.
