- Injury Report: 10 players, multiple starters ‘Out’ for Michigan State vs. Minnesota
The Spartans are beat up and battered heading into today’s game against
The bad news keeps on piling up for Michigan State football, as the Spartans have multiple new names listed as ‘Out’ on this week’s Big Ten availability report.
Just a couple hours before kickoff, we’ve learned that starting tight end Maliq Carr will not play today against Minnesota, nor will starting cornerback Charles Brantley, who will miss his fifth consecutive game after being injured in Week 3 against Washington. Additionally, starting defensive end Zion Young is ‘Questionable’ for the Spartans.
Quarterback Noah Kim, who has not played for MSU since losing his starting job to redshirt freshman Katin Houser in Week 7 against Rutgers, is listed as ‘Out’ today. This is the first time the redshirt junior has appeared on the availability report, despite hints from interim head coach Harlon Barnett that Kim was working through some things health-wise.
Earlier this week, we learned backup running back Jalen Berger was lost for the season following an injury against Michigan. Interim head coach Harlon Barnett confirmed on his radio show Thursday that Berger had undergone season-ending surgery. The availability report reflects that news as well.
Other players listed as ‘Out’ for the Spartans today include cornerbacks Semar Melvin and Margui Lowery, linebackers Ma’a Gaoteote (Season) and Darius Snow, defensive tackles Jarrett Jackson and Dre Butler, defensive ends Bai Jobe and Andrew Depaepe, safety Malcolm Jones, running back Davion Primm and offensive lineman Geno VanDeMark.
Cornerback Ade Willie has been upgraded to ‘Questionable’ for MSU, after missing last week’s game.
As for positive news, running back Jaren Mangham is not listed on the availability report for the first time this season. He made his Michigan State debut last week against Michigan, and looks to be good to go today against Minnesota. Likewise, wide receiver Jaron Glover looks to be available after being listed as ‘Questionable’ and not playing last week.
Previous Michigan State players who have been listed ‘Out’ for the season include linebacker Jacoby Windmon, safety Armorion Smith, defensive tackle Alex VanSumeren, running back Jaelon Barbarin and offensive linemen Stanton Ramil and Gavin Broscious.
