During their postseason recruiting trips, members of Florida’s coaching staff made two crucial stops in the Lone Star State on Wednesday night.

Two days after Harris’ hiring and two days before Filsaime is set to make his official trip to Texas, highly sought-after Florida safety commitment and rumored flip candidate Xavier Filsaime shared a photo from his first meeting with the Gators’ new secondary coach. This was the first time that Will Harris caused a stir.

Thirty-five minutes later, DJ Lagway, the franchise quarterback promise, posted a picture from dinner with his family, J.P. Tillman, the quarterback trainer, Florida head coach Billy Napier, and running backs coach Jabbar Juluke.

Lagway and Filsaime are the leaders of Florida’s 2024 commitment haul; they have been committed since December 2022 and April of this year, respectively. Their meetings with the UF coaching staff one week prior to signing day are crucial as other programs slyly pursue their commitments.
Filsaime had an in-home visit from Longhorns head coach Steve Sarkisian and safety coach Blake Gideon last week before to his formal travel to UT-Austin this coming weekend. It’s said that Mike Elko, the new head coach of Texas A&M, treated Lagway similarly last week.

Nevertheless, as the 2024 cycle draws to a close, both of them continue to openly declare their commitment to Florida. This helps UF retain its top-five recruiting class ranking.
The 247Sports aggregate rankings place 6-foot-3, 225-pound Lagway as the third-best quarterback and 14th-best talent overall in the class of 2024. In high school, he completed 568 of 865 pass attempts for 8,393 yards, 101 touchdowns, and 16 interceptions. He also added 2,197 yards and 29 touchdowns through rushes.
With his 59 passing touchdowns as a senior, Lagway eclipsed the single-season record set by 2005 by Southlake Carroll, Alabama, and NFL quarterback Greg McElroy, who had 56 throwing scores among Texas 6A/5A high school quarterbacks.
Over his two varsity seasons as a defensive back, Filsaime—who was ranked as the aggregate No. 2 safety and No. 31 overall recruit—accumulated 156 tackles, including one for loss, two interceptions, nine passes defended, five forced fumbles, and a blocked punt. As a junior, the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Filsaime switched from wide receiver to the defense.
The early registration period for the class of 2024 will start on Wednesday and run from December 20 to 22, 2023.
