Born on May 17, 1996[1], Frank Ragnow plays center for the National Football League (NFL) Detroit Lions in American football. In the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Lions selected him while he was still a college football player at Arkansas.

Career in high school
In Chanhassen, Minnesota, Ragnow attended Chanhassen High School. As a senior, he was ranked as the No. 3 recruit from Minnesota and the 24th-best offensive lineman in the country. He was rated as a four-star athlete by ESPN. After having offers from universities including Wisconsin, Vanderbilt, Minnesota, Ohio State, and Florida State, Ragnow finally decided to play for the University of Arkansas. In addition, he competed for the track and field team. He placed second in the Class AA State Finals with a shot put of 57 feet, 6+1/4 inches (17.532 meters).[2]

College career: As a freshman center, Ragnow took part in nine of Arkansas’s twelve games. His 0 sacks allowed helped Arkansas reach the top of the SEC. As a sophomore, Ragnow started as a right guard in all thirteen Razorbacks games and did not allow any sacks in the final seven games of the season. Ragnow played more than 900 plays in his junior season, starting 12 games for the Hogs as the right guard and the center in the other. In 2017, he was a senior and started at center.

All values from the Arkansas Pro Day and the NFL Combine[3][4] In the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions selected Ragnow (20th overall).[5] Ragnow was the second interior lineman drafted in 2018 and the first center selected.[6] After Steve Korte, who was chosen 38th overall in the 1983 NFL Draft, was surpassed by Ragnow to become the highest-drafted center from Arkansas.[7]

Ragnow signed a four-year, $11.78 million contract with the Detroit Lions on May 12, 2018, which includes a $9.21 million guaranteed and a $6.64 million signing bonus.[8]

Ragnow had mostly been utilized as a center during his undergraduate career, but the Detroit Lions quickly switched him to offensive guard.[9] With Travis Swanson gone, Graham Glasgow was supposed to start for the Lions at center.[10] Ragnow was selected by head coach Matt Patricia as the starting left guard to start the regular season. Alongside right guard T. J. Lang, center Graham Glasgow, offensive tackles Rick Wagner and Taylor Decker were in the starting lineup.[11]

In the 48-17 season-opening loss to the New York Jets, he made his professional regular season debut and first career start for the Detroit Lions.[12] By season’s end, he started all 16 games as left guard. He received a 2021 Pro Bowl selection on December 21, 2020.[13]

The Lions exercised Ragnow’s contract’s fifth-year option on April 28, 2021.[14] On May 7, he inked a $54 million, four-year contract deal with the Lions.[15][16]

Due to a toe injury, Ragnow was placed on injured reserve on October 6, 2021.
