TULSAHASSEE – It was revealed on Thursday that Florida State head coach Mike Norvell is a finalist for both the organization’s ACC Coach of the Year award and the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year Award.

In addition to being named the ACC Coach of the Year, the AFCA Region 1 Coach of the Year, one of the 12 finalists for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award, and one of the 14 semifinalists for the George Munger Coach of the Year Award by the Maxwell Football Club, Norvell led the Seminoles to a 13-0 record and an appearance in the Capital One Orange Bowl.

After leading the 2023 Seminoles to their sixth straight perfect regular season in program history, an ACC Championship Game victory over No. 14 Louisville, a No. 4 position in the Associated Press poll, and an Orange Bowl selection to play No. 6 Georgia, Norvell is currently in his fourth season at Florida State. Since Bobby Bowden in 1997, Norvell is the first FSU coach to win ACC Coach of the Year.

Norvell joined the 2013 national championship squad and the 2014 College Football Playoff semifinalists as the third Florida State team to record 13 wins in history. Since 2000, Norvell is the sixth different ACC coach to guide his club to an unbeaten conference record.

With eight victories over Power 5 conference teams qualifying for bowl games this season—the most in the nation—the Seminoles are also tied for the lead nationally with four victories in games in which they trailed by at least ten points. FSU’s eight games with a plus-24 scoring run placed second in 2023. The club was the only one to produce a period in which it outscored its opponent by at least 17 points in every game during the regular season.

Leading by quarterback Jordan Travis, the squad of Norvell selected a program-high 25 players, including at least one at every position, for the All-ACC teams. With eight first-team picks, Florida State led the league. The ACC was also led by Florida State in terms of second- and third-team accolades.

In terms of opponent completion percentage, pass breakups, passes defended, and fewest turnovers lost, the Seminoles are unbeaten in the country. They rank second in passing efficiency defense, third in sacks, fourth in passing touchdowns allowed, and fifth in net punting and turnover margin. Finally, they rank sixth in scoring defense.

With 37.0 points scored per game and 15.9 points allowed per game on defense, FSU leads the ACC in both categories.

After leading Memphis to a 12-1 record, the AAC title, and a Cotton Bowl appearance in 2019, Norvell was named a finalist for the Paul “Bear” Bryant Coach of the Year award for the second time in his career. The winner for this year will be revealed on January 10.

On Saturday, December 30 at 4:00 p.m., Florida State and Georgia will meet at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. ESPN will carry the game.
