Cardinals May Consider Getting Back Together With Their Own Three-Time All-Star
SAD NEWS: The big ten have drop a huge punishment to louis head coach for…..
The St. Louis Cardinals can now focus on other areas for development after successfully retooling the rotation this winter.
The Cardinals may add a bat or two after having the 13th-best OPS in all of Major League Baseball the previous season.
A homegrown player who recently came up for sale could be a good way to add depth to St. Louis’ roster.
Major League Baseball’s transaction report on Monday indicates that Matt Carpenter has been formally released.
During his 11 seasons with the Cardinals, Carpenter batted.262 with 484 extra-base hits, including 155 home runs, 576 RBIs, and a.816 OPS.
After a terrible season, the 38-year-old left St. Louis and signed with the New York Yankees in 2022. It was with the Yankees that he had his final successful season before his decline began over in 2023 with the San Diego Padres.
Carpenter was recently acquired by the Atlanta Braves in a deal with the Padres in order to obtain left-handed reliever Ray Kerr; however, in order to get Kerr, the Braves had to assume $4 million of Carpenter’s $5.5 million contract. The Braves released the designated hitter after failing to find a trade partner.
After hitting.305/.412/.727 with the Yankees in 2022, the right-hand bat switched to the Padres for 2023 and finished with a.176/.322/.319 line. Carpenter’s effectiveness has drastically declined, which has made it impossible for him to get a roster position.
For St. Louis, this could be a fantastic chance to add a bench bat and bring back a familiar face. In order to evaluate if Carpenter still has some left in him, the Cardinals might offer him a minor league contract and invite him to spring training.
If not, they can part ways with the knowledge that they gave Carpenter another opportunity to establish himself as a Cardinal.
