Despite interest from New York, former Yankees fireballer floated as a free agent target for rival
Is it possible for the former Yankees fireballer to sign with a rival team in New York?
It sounds like a rival team of the New York Yankees might decide to go after a former player.
Frankie Montas, a former pitcher for the Yankees, is currently a free agent after playing in parts of the previous two seasons in New York. Though the 30-year-old fireballer was limited to one game with New York last season, there have been whispers of a potential reunion in the works.
However, the Tampa Bay Rays have been mentioned as a potential team if the Yankees decide not to bring him back, according to Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report.
The Rays cleared $33 million in salaries by trading (Tyler Glasnow) and (Manuel Margot) to the (Los Angeles Dodgers), which isn’t a small amount of money by their standards,” Rymer said. “Trouble is, their payroll is still slated to increase by $18 million over what they spent in 2023. And what was a strong need for starters is now even stronger, leading to a question of who they might be able to afford.
