Some, such as centre Reuben Garrick, produced commendable work; his rendition of the Parramatta Eels emblem was fairly accurate.

Some attempts fell well short of expectations.

When Tommy Talau was given the duty of sketching the Penrith Panthers emblem, he attempted to be imaginative and produced a drawing that resembled the characters from Where the Wild Things Are more than anything else.

While halfback Jake Arthur’s attempt to design the iconic Wests Tigers emblem looked nothing like a Tiger at all, rising forward Austin Dias’ attempt to draw the Canberra Raiders logo looked more like a cat.

But it was all in good humor, as supporters applauded the team’s efforts.

The highly anticipated Las Vegas double-header on March 3 marks the start of the NRL season. However, the first round of games on Australian soil starts the following week, with chief executive Andrew Abdo standing by his choice to play the opening game in Newcastle.

Abdo remarked, “It’s an unusual year because we effectively had two round 1s,” in response to rumors that the Thursday night fixture had upset the broadcasters.

The week prior, we have two games in Vegas, and the rest of the first round is played at the customary location.

This year, we have the chance to try something new. The first few rounds have several blockbusters, and round 1 features several important matchups.
