Derrick Ward, a former NFL running back, faces a lengthy jail term after being charged with five felonies related to a robbery spree.

As per TMZ, the former Super Bowl winner was charged with second-degree robbery on Wednesday by the prosecution.

It happens shortly after Ward was detained in Los Angeles on charges of robbing many establishments, including gas stations.

According to reports, the 43-year-old was still in police custody as of Thursday morning. It is reported that a $250,000 bail has been made for him.

Though police claim he didn’t have a gun during the robberies, the resident of Los Angeles is believed to have taken money from the establishments using “force” and “fear.”

Between 2004 and 2011, Ward was a player in the National Football League (NFL), spending time with the New York Jets, Giants, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Houston Texans.

A few years after being selected by the Jets in the seventh round of the 2004 draft, he inked a $17 million deal with the Buccaneers.

Ward had a key role in the Giants’ 2008 Super Bowl victory over Tom Brady and the unbeaten Patriots.

He participated in 93 NFL games during his career, gaining 2,628 yards of total offense, and finishing with 15 touchdowns.
