Steelers Add Two Veterans to Defense

For Week 16, the Pittsburgh Steelers gain some much-needed starting defense experience.

Pittsburgh — In preparation for their Week 16 matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals, the Pittsburgh Steelers are bolstering their defense with the addition of two seasoned starters. Inside linebacker Myles Jack and safety Eric Rowe have been added to the team’s active/inactive roster for the game, according to the announcement.

Due to their elevation, both members of the practice squad will be able to play on game day and then return to the practice squad. In Week 16, Jack and Rowe are both anticipated to contribute significantly to the defense and may perhaps start owing to injuries.

Due to injuries to Trenton Thompson’s neck and Minkah Fitzpatrick’s knee, as well as Damontae Kazee’s one-game suspension, the Steelers will start Rowe, Miles Killebrew, and cornerback Patrick Peterson at safety.

Although Elijah Riley (ankle) is listed as questionable going into the game, he may be able to rejoin the group after returning from Injured Reserve.

Having been selected in the second round of the 2015 NFL Draft, Rowe has played in 100 NFL games, 56 of which were starts. He started six games for the Miami Dolphins in the previous campaign.

Jack, a linebacker, will make his first appearance on the playing field since joining the practice squad at the end of the season. The veteran had declared his retirement at the beginning of the season, but he later rejoined the Steelers following injuries to Kwon Alexander and Cole Holcomb.

This week’s group will include Jack, Mykal Walker, Blake Martinez, Elandon Roberts, and Mark Robinson. With Roberts as his partner, Jack might see his first start of the season as Pittsburgh searches for the best inside linebacker among Walker, Martinez, Robinson, and Jack.
