Cleveland Browns News 12/26: Riley Patterson Signed, Amari Cooper Humble, and Ill-Advised Early Mornings

The Cleveland Browns must quickly prepare for the New York Jets because they need to sign a new kicker and work quickly to get ready for the holiday.

Greetings, Cleveland Browns supporters!

I might have erred in some way.

I got up at my usual time this morning, seemingly unaware that I could be a little slower this morning due to my late-night viewing of the San Francisco 49ers humiliating themselves against the Baltimore Ratbirds as well as my heavy holiday drink tasting. These morning digressions may seem like nothing more than me sitting down at a computer and scribbling whatever comes to mind at random, and you would not be far from the truth, but they provide a bit of a struggle when your entire being tells you that it would be better to go back to sleep.

However, I will continue to march. I’m a soldier, just like Kellen Winslow Jr. (Note that I am not similar to Kellen Winslow, Jr. in any other manner.)

Luckily, I suppose, there’s not a lot of news from yesterday to summarize here. Given that the normal kicker is now injured, the signing of a new one by the Browns is great. It’s hardly the best outcome when he gets hurt trying to stop a Texan who returned a kickoff for a touchdown. He’s not been able to practice because of his hamstring.

Riley Patterson, who struggled with a slump last week and was cut by the Lions, is the new kicker. Maybe a change of environment will help, or maybe he won’t be needed at all.

I hope yesterday’s holiday was wonderful for you. I leaned on the amazing OBR team to see us through Christmas Day after waking up and frantically putting up the Newswire, and they performed a fantastic job. I could spend the day with my family and give them my whole attention because of that amazing group of folks.

Christmas is really more about giving than receiving as you get older, but I did receive one gift that matters here (apart from the bottle of booze whose aftereffects are already affecting my ability to type in the morning).

I have never requested a Cleveland Browns jersey in my twenty-four years, but this year I have gotten two. Myles Garrett jersey from earlier this year from my son, and a Nick Chubb jersey from my wife yesterday. I’ll be moving about the house in the new #24 Browns jersey today.

We discussed how incredible it was that the Browns had made such progress without a player who had meant so much to them as I held up the gift for my family to see. It is beyond my comprehension that the Browns, even without Deshaun Watson and both starting offensive tackles, could have managed to win 10-5 and secure a postseason berth without his contributions.

Chubb has been a bit of a forgotten name lately with all the excitement surrounding Joe Flacco and Amari Cooper’s incredible achievements, but as you read this, he’s definitely working someplace and putting all of his effort into getting back on the field in 2024. I wish him success and know that the players who are still in the locker room fighting for the greatest 2023 season they can muster are always thinking about him.

I hope you had a wonderful one! GO BLUE!
