BREAKING NEWS: Five star-set to join Bruins.

This week, Georgii Merkulov received a call-up to the NHL, and he made his Bruins debut on Saturday. The forward played 15:08 as the team’s third line center despite not scoring any points in Boston’s 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils at TD Garden. He was also given credit for three faceoff wins.

“He accomplished a great deal of good. Coach Jim Montgomery said to reporters following the game, “I didn’t play him down the stretch just because we were looking to close out the game.” “I sent him back out there as soon as we scored the fifth goal to win the game.” He had a strong game.

With a need for an offensive spark, Merkulov was summoned to the Bruins after a hot stretch in December for Providence that included 10 goals in 12 games. And while he didn’t find the back of the net Saturday, he did what was asked of him.

“I think we’re really starting to get to our game and I thought the (Johnny) Beecher line started it off and then Merkulov’s line followed it up,” Montgomery said. “And then you have your two offensive lines, your scoring lines, coming in and we really hemmed them in.”

Aside from Merkulov’s debut, Kevin Shattenkirk scored his 100th career goal, and Jake DeBrusk showed hints of an offensive explosion with a goal and an assist following a difficult start to the season.

Merkulov’s tenure will probably be extended because he will be competing for Team Canada at the World Juniors alongside Matt Poitras. Sunday night’s second of a back-to-back game between the Bruins and the Detroit Red Wings will see them get back into action soon, and Merkulov is expected to start for the second consecutive game.
