Breaking news: Nick Sirianni has been Fined for embarrassing Giants for no …
The Philadelphia Eagles are headed to the NFL playoffs, but smiles are hard to come by within the team. There’s just not much to celebrate outside of a playoff ticket for the Eagles, as they are seemingly limping their way to the postseason.
With the form they currently have, it’s just hard to imagine the reigning NFC champions going on a deep run and reaching the Super Bowl again for the second year in a row. That was further underscored by their 27-10 road loss against the New York Giants.
Eagles head coach Nick Sirianni was understandably frustrated after his team finished the regular season with a loud thud.
“Obvious it wasn’t good enough. We didn’t coach good enough. We didn’t play good enough. There’s really no explanation. Just didn’t get the job done,” Sirianni said during the postgame press conference following the embarrassing defeat at the hands of the Giants (h/t Brooks Kubena of The Athletic).
Compounding the ugly mood for the Eagles amid the Week 18 loss to the Giants is the finger injury suffered in that game by quarterback Jalen Hurts. Hopefully for the Eagles, that injury will not force Hurts out of their Wild Card showdown on Jan. 15 on the road versus Baker Mayfield and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Hurts went just 7/16 for 55 passing yards with zero touchdowns and zero interceptions while absorbing two sacks for a loss of 26 yards versus the Giants.
Against the Giants, the Eagles’ offense churned out only 299 total yards and allowed New York to rack up 415 of its own. It was not a great sign for the Eagles heading into the playoffs, and that’s not to mention that they also suffered a painful loss a week before versus the Arizona Cardinals. Losing two games in a row both against teams that are not going to play beyond Week 18 appears to be a symptom of a serious issue within the Eagles. In any case, it is not too late for them to turn things around, with a week to prepare before the meeting with the Buccaneers.
