GOOD NEWS: Former NFL exec shares interesting update on Buccaneers’ Todd Bowles
Former NFL executive and current SiriusXM NFL Radio host Pat Kirwan routinely has Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Todd Bowles as a guest on his show and offered an interesting piece of information regarding Bowles during Monday’s edition of his program.
“You know, people still think Todd Bowles is going to get fired,” Kirwan said about Bowles’ reputation in certain NFL circles, as shared by the JoeBucsFan website. “You gotta be kidding, man. This is his first year without Tom Brady and he’s going to the postseason.”
Bowles was promoted from defensive coordinator to the role of head coach after Bruce Arians surprisingly stepped down in March 2022. The 60-year-old then had to deal with distractions and potential on-the-field issues related to Brady’s divorce from Gisele Bündchen last season but nevertheless guided the club to a division title.
It was thought that Bowles could be on the hot seat after Tampa Bay squandered a chance to clinch the NFC South in Week 17 on Dec. 31. However, the Buccaneers ultimately claimed the division crown and earned a home playoff game via this past Sunday’s 9-0 win at the lowly Carolina Panthers (2-15).
“He’s a leader of men,” Kirwan added about Bowles. “He passes the criteria. Don’t screw this up by firing Todd Bowles.”
As noted by JoeBucsFan, Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht could silence any and all talk about Bowles’ future by giving the coach a public vote of confidence ahead of this coming Monday’s home playoff game versus the 11-6 Philadelphia Eagles. Every day Licht doesn’t do just that could cause some to believe he may consider looking for a supposed upgrade at head coach if the Bucs fall to Philadelphia.
As of Tuesday afternoon, DraftKings Sportsbook listed 9-8 Tampa Bay as a three-point home underdog against the Eagles. If Kirwan is right, Bowles may find himself coaching for his job during the final contest of the postseason’s wild-card round.
