NEWSREPORT: New updates on Alabama’s head coaching search

Alabama athletic director Greg Byrne was aware the second news broke of Nick Saban’s retirement on Wednesday that he’d need to work fast, and it appears that’s what’s happening.

According to a report from FootballScoop, there are three “serious contenders” in terms of being eyed for interviews this week which include Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, Florida State head coach Mike Norvell and Crimson Tide offensive coordinator Tommy Rees.

There are also a pair of head coaches gaining some traction in the race, Missouri head coach Eli Drinkwitz and former Saban assistant now Maryland head coach Mike Locksley.

In terms of Locksley, the report shared that he has received endorsement from at least one key booster and numerous former Alabama players.

High on many Alabama faithful’s wishlists to replace Saban were other former assistants Lane Kiffin (Ole Miss) and Steve Sarkisian (Texas) who were also listed in the report along with Dabo Swinney (Clemson) as those associated with the search but have very little traction as of right now.

However the interview process shakes out, a decision on who the next head coach will be is still expected to come by the end of the week.
