Joelinton expected to miss entire season  Phillips deal off…

Transfer deal: Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle, West Ham and Juventus are all interested in Manchester City midfielder…

Newcastle have been rocked by news Joelinton is expected to miss the rest of the season with injury, while, as it stands, the club’s move for Man City midfielder Kalvin Phillips is off, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Brazil international has been told he requires an operation to fix a tendon issue in his groin, suffered during the FA Cup win against Sunderland – which could result in four months on the sidelines. However, the paper reports Newcastle are seeking a second opinion.

Phillips provides a solution at the injury-stricken club, but the Magpies’ hierarchy reportedly do not believe signing the Man City midfielder makes ‘financial sense’, with the loan fee in the region of £7m being too high and an obligation-to-buy clause in the region of £40m also being of concern, regarding Profit and Sustainability rules.

Crystal Palace, Everton, Newcastle, West Ham and Juventus are all interested in Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The England midfielder is on the market this month and City would prefer to sell – but a loan move has not yet been ruled out.

They would want a loan fee – thought to be around £5m – and most, if not all, of his £135,000-per-week wages paid in full.

Several of these clubs are believed to have made initial approaches to City to register their interest.

However, it remains to be seen what kind of deal they are prepared to offer, with nothing formal having yet been submitted to the champions.

Newcastle have been tipped as a credible destination as they are looking for a loan player to cover the suspended Sandro Tonali and Phillips is high on their list.

But both chief executive Darren Eales and manager Eddie Howe warned last week that they are at the apex of spending within Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

West Ham also have a long-standing interest in Phillips but it is thought his wages may prove a stumbling block for any potential deal to the London Stadium.

Everton, meanwhile, cannot buy players nor pay a loan fee unless they sell someone due to their severe ongoing financial problems.

Juventus remain keen, meanwhile, and have held initial talks with City – even though manager Max Allegri would prefer a slightly different profile of player.

They also have other current and former Premier League options they like such as Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Jordan Henderson and Nottingham Forest’s Orel Mangala.

City boss Pep Guardiola admitted in December that Phillips can go for regular games, having made only four Premier League appearances this term.

Newcastle to step up scouting of Sporting defender Diomande’

Newcastle will step up their scouting of Ousmane Diomande this month in a bid to head off expected stiff competition for the Sporting Lisbon defender, according to the Sunday Mirror.

It is claimed Newcastle may have to break their transfer record to land the 20-year-old having paid £63m to sign Alexander Isak from Real Sociedad in August 2022.

Sporting reportedly value the Ivory Coast international at £70m but Newcastle are likely to open the bidding below that.

Diomande has starred for Sporting this season with the club sitting top of the Portuguese league and the report says he is expected to be in high demand due to his ability to pass out from the back.
