Celtic are looking to bolster their forward department in the January window, and they have earmarked Bologna attacker Sydney van Hooijdonk as one of their targets.
The Bhoys have made only one signing so far, with Nicolas Kuhn having joined in a £2.8 million deal from Rapid Vienna last week.
He probably won’t be the only signing this month, as Brendan Rodgers is looking to add a striker and a left-back to the ranks.
According to a report from Football Scotland, van Hooijdonk could be an option for the Hoops, and Celtic scouts have discussed the 23-year-old internally.
The striker has been told that he has no future at the Italian club, which means the Bhoys have a chance here to snap him up. Bologna, however, will not sanction a loan move unless it comes with an obligation to buy.
Celtic are yet to make an offer as they are exploring other options as well.
Rodgers needs to add more players
In a recent interview, Rodgers hinted that he wants to bring in new players.
“Well, there’s lots of work going on. Hopefully, before the window shuts, we can improve the squad,” he said.
It will be interesting to see if they make a move for the Dutchman, but the former Liverpool boss may have other ideas.
Mathias Kvistgaarden is one player who has been linked with a move, while there has been interest in Leeds United young striker Joe Gelhardt.
Celtic could be forced to sell one or two players if they receive handsome compensation for them. Cameron Carter-Vickers has been targeted by Premier League clubs, and Celtic can demand a high transfer fee for him.
Matt O’Riley has attracted interest from La Liga leaders Girona, but Celtic are unlikely to sell him this month as they receive a massive transfer fee for him.
