The Fabrizio Romano transfer update that will enrage Newcastle fans

The January transfer window may have closed, but Fabrizio Romano is still providing updates that will be of interest to Newcastle United fans.

But while this one is not about a new signing or someone leaving St. James’ Park, it is bound to rile up the Toon Army following what was a very quiet January transfer window.

Newcastle United only made one signing, with 18-year-old Alfie Harrison arriving from Manchester City. And he is one for the future rather than the present.

And speaking of the future, it appears that Manchester City are already making moves ahead of next season.

Manchester City set to sign Savio
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester City are going to sign Savio when the summer transfer window opens.

He broke the news on Monday night, stating that the Brazilian winger will head to the Etihad Stadium at the end of the season.

On Tuesday morning, Romano added that the deal will be completed by the end of this month and that Savio will be involved in the Manchester City first team next season.

Romano issues Newcastle transfer update amid fresh Ashworth claim

On the face of it, there is nothing to see here. But there is when you look at who Man City is getting Savio from.

He is currently on loan at La Liga title challengers Girona, who are part of the City Football Group. And his parent club is Troyes in France, whom he has yet to make his debut for after signing in 2022. And who are they owned by? The City Football Group, of course.

So Manchester City are going to sign a player from one of their affiliate clubs, just months after the majority of the Premier League was up in arms at the suggestion of Newcastle loaning someone from another PIF club.

Ruben Neves was a loan target for the Magpies, and the speculation eventually led to Premier League clubs voting on a potential ban on such deals. It did not pass, nor did Newcastle try to sign Neves.

But even a hint of a deal between Newcastle and a PIF club in Saudi Arabia sparked fury among rivals. Man City is actually doing a deal, and you can guarantee there will be no pushback.

It is infuriating for Toon fans, who know fine well that if this was Newcastle doing a similar deal, then it would be headline news.
