Brett Veach Reveals Plans for Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed Extensions.

Chiefs’ general manager Brett Veach spoke with ESPN and revealed his desire to give contract extensions to Chris Jones and L’Jarius Sneed this offseason.

We’ve operated under the belief all year that the team would move on from Jones to prioritize other players, and since Sneed is another guy, there was growing concern that he would command too much money to afford.

That being said, it sounds like retaining the two stars is Veach’s No. 1 priority.

According to Veach in the piece, “Sometimes I look at our situation and I’m like, ‘I don’t know how we’re going to do this,’ but we usually work through things systematically and have a list of the priorities.”

He continued, “Certainly, Chris and LJ are at the top of the list.” That’s spectacular news for Chiefs fans hoping to keep the band together, though it does raise questions about how specifically Veach could manage the cap to pull it off.

Jones will likely command north of $30 million, while Sneed has been perhaps the league’s best corner this year, raising his price tag dramatically. They’re two pillars of this defense, but the Chiefs would almost have to cut corners elsewhere or restructure contracts to make the numbers work.

Spotrac projects that Kansas City has just under $24 million in available cap space next season, so it’s a tough ask. However, we’ve seen Veach work magic before. Win the Super Bowl this Sunday and perhaps other players on the roster, not to mention Jones and Sneed themselves, would be willing to find a way.
