Alabama expected to hire Christian Robinson as OLBs coach after William Inge takes Tennessee job: Reports

It seemed briefly that new Alabama football head coach Kalen DeBoer had filled his on-field staff for the 2024 season, with the reported additions of Chris Kapilovic and Bryan Ellis Monday morning. That briefly changed Monday afternoon, with William Inge, who had been expected to join the Crimson Tide’s staff as outside linebackers coach and special teams coordinator, instead reportedly heading to Tennessee.

However, the vacancy didn’t last long. The Athletic’s Bruce Feldman reported that the Crimson Tide is expected to hire Christian Robinson for the job. Robinson had previous been the linebackers coach at Baylor.

Robinson brings a wealth of southern experience to the job. He made previous coaching stops at Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.

He played his college football at Georgia from 2009-12.

Volquest reported Monday that Inge will join Josh Heupel’s staff in Knoxville. He had previously coached under DeBoer at Washington, where he served as the Huskies’ co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Alabama had never officially announced Inge’s addition to the coaching staff. He had previously followed DeBoer to other coaching stops, including Indiana and Fresno State.

Besides Wommack, UA has only announced two assistants for next season, both of whom are holdovers from Nick Saban’s 2023 staff. Robert Gillespie remains as running backs coach, while Freddie Roach will continue coaching the defensive line.

The Crimson Tide will make its public debut until April 13, when Alabama will hold the A-Day spring game at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
