Andrew Holleran highlighted what exactly is taking place in Minnesota:
The Minnesota Vikings are expected to try to bring back Kirk Cousins in free agency, but will Justin Jefferson be on the team moving forward?
Minnesota is reportedly now considering a blockbuster trade offer for Jefferson, as he’s expected to negotiate for a historic wide receiver contract extension.
There is reportedly growing “steam” that Jefferson could be traded in a blockbuster move.
Pro Football Talk believes that Jefferson’s contract demands got even higher on Friday:
The Vikings probably wish they’d gotten receiver Justin Jefferson signed to a second contract before Friday. Whether they ever will remains to be seen.
The one fundamental truth about giving one of your own great players the contract he deserves is that the price will always go up if you wait. Always. As of Friday, with the salary cap shooting to $255.4 million per team, Jefferson’s price goes up even higher.
But perhaps the Vikings will not be the team that ends up paying Jefferson his record-setting contract.
It’ll be interesting to see where Jefferson lands this offseason, if he ends up being put on the trading block.
