Lions’ NFLPA report card: Campbell among best, organization improving in other areas

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell is held in very popular regard around the NFL. After leading the team to an appearance in the NFC Championship game in 2023, he proved that he is among the league’s best leaders.

In a recent survey conducted by the NFL Players Association, Campbell received an A+ grade, one of three coaches to receive that distinction.
The organization ranked 13th in the league in the survey, which analyzes a number of different factors that go into the organization’s well-being. Among the highest-graded areas, in addition to the head coach, were the strength coaches (A-) and weight room.

“The players clearly enjoy working for him, with respondents calling out his willingness to listen to their locker room,” read a summary of the findings published by the NFLPA. “The Lions hired a new training staff this offseason, and the players noted in the responses that they could feel the improvement at the workplace and received significantly more individualized care this season compared to last season.”

Sheila Hamp was ranked as the 21st best owner in the league and received a B-. Owners were graded based on their willingness to invest in the team’s facilities.

“Club owner Sheila Ford Hamp receives a rating of 8.1/10 from Lions players when considering her willingness to invest in the facilities (21st overall),” explained the survey.

The Lions graded out above a C in all areas except for two, food/café and nutritionist/dietician. Last season, the survey graded the Lions at D in the Food/Nutrition category.

“The food program is another area that players noted improvement from last year, with players noting that the food tastes better and is fresher,” the survey read. “Despite the improvements, players responded that they still hope to see another jump going into next year, as food service remains the number one issue players would like to see upgraded.”
