NFL. Courtland Sutton signals potential Broncos exit following Russell Wilson’s departure
NFL. Russell Wilson shows his disdain for Sean Payton in his farewell to the Denver Broncos
Russell Wilson is set to depart the Denver Broncos after the organization gave the 35-year-old quarterback permission to speak to other teams after a disappointing spell in Colorado saw him fail to propel the franchise to the level they desired from him.
The ex-Seattle Seahawk will be released once at the start of the league year on March 13. And as a result, for convenience, the Broncos will allow him to seek out his next club early.

He has been strongly linked to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the move would see them finally replace Ben Roethlisberger. In the two years since he left the organization, they have struggled with Kenny Pickett.
Although that’s partially due to a poor offensive coordinator in Matt Canada, who was fired. Wilson could serve as a mentor to the junior QB and take him out of the spotlight whilst giving the Steelers the chance to improve on a .588 record in 2023 (10-7) as they finished third in the AFC North.
“Before free agency begins,” Adam Schefter wrote on X.com, formerly Twitter. “The Broncos have given soon-to-be-released quarterback, Russell Wilson, permission to immediately begin speaking and meeting with other teams in their home cities, per sources.
“Wilson’s free agency begins now.”
Broncos legend blasts Wilson
Wilson’s 2023/24 stats read 447 passing attempts for 297 completions (66.4%) in 15 games for 3070 yards and 26 touchdowns.
Combined with 2022/23, this gave him a total of 30 games in Denver orange for 6594 yards from 930 passing attempts for 589 completions (63.3%) and 42 touchdowns with 20 interceptions and 90 sacks.
Those are not the same lofty heights that he set with the Seahawks, whom won the Super Bowl in 2013 against the Broncos, and he didn’t have the same rushing game in Denver either – although with his age that’s understandable.

Nonetheless, that has not stopped Karl Mecklenburg from slamming the QB online as he took to X.com, formerly Twitter, to vent about Wilson’s form in what also proves to be a warning to the Steelers too.
“Russell Wilson isn’t a leader,” former Broncos linebacker Karl Mecklenburg. “The foolishness that went on in his first year at Denver with a private coach, his own office at the facility, and family at training camp when other players didn’t have those privileges, proved his self-centeredness.”
