PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers are hosting one of this year’s top free agent quarterbacks available this offseason at their practice facility on the South Side this week.
According to a report from ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, former Seahawks and Broncos quarterbacks Russell Wilson has arrived at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex for his meeting with the Steelers.
It’s been a busy day for Wilson, who took an “exploratory meeting” with the Giants on the way to Pittsburgh and is expected to meet with the Las Vegas Raiders, among other teams as well.
Wilson, a nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion in 2013, threw for 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season, his second with the Broncos. Denver released him earlier this week and the Steelers immediately became a logical fit.
According to a report from All Steelers’ Noah Strackbein, Wilson would be viewed as a backup and veteran mentor for Steelers 2022 first-round pick Kenny Pickett, who is the only quarterback currently on the roster.
This meeting will likely determine whether or not Wilson signs with the Steelers and is critical to determining the future of the quarterback position in Pittsburgh.
