No. 18 Florida State (17-5) has won five in a row and plays its final game before opening its ACC schedule when it hosts No. 13 Alabama (20-3) on Wednesday night at JoAnne Graf Field in Tallahassee.
The Seminoles were the runner-up in last season’s Women’s College World Series and have gone to the last 23 NCAA tournaments. Florida State swept the ACC regular season and tournament titles in 2023. The Crimson Tide salvaged the finale of its SEC opening series, dropping two of three to visiting Florida, which came in ranked No. 13. Alabama tumbled five spots in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll as a result. The Tide also played in last year’s WCWS and have played in 24 straight NCAA tourneys.

The Seminoles swept a pair from visiting South Dakota State on Tuesday, winning the opener 11-5 before taking the second game 8-0 in six innings via the run rule. Jaysoni Beachum is hitting .486/.549/.806 with six homers and a team-high 25 RBIs, while Michaela Edenfield has a team-best eight home runs. Amaya Ross has stolen 16 bases without being caught and has scored 32 runs in 22 games.
After losing 2-0 and 11-2 in a run-rule game, Alabama beat Florida in Monday’s series finale 3-0. Abby Duchscherer is hitting .373/.462/.657 and leads the team with five homers and 23 RBIs. Kayla Beaver is 8-1 in the circle with a 0.45 ERA and 0.73 WHIP in 62 innings. She has six complete games, three shutouts and three saves.
Allison Royalty is leading the FSU staff with a 6-3 record in 13 appearances to go with a 2.58 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 38.1 innings. Makenna Reid is 5-0 with a 3.89 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 37 innings.
