PITTSBURGH — A former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive tackle is moving on to another team in the AFC after signing a new contract as a free agent this week.
Armon Watts, who joined the Steelers for just this past season, has signed with the New England Patriots, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Financial terms have not yet been disclosed.
Watts, a six-year NFL veteran, began his career with the Minnesota Vikings before signing consecutive one-year deals with the Chicago Bears and Steelers.
Watts has amassed 140 total tackles and 8.5 sacks in 72 games and 22 starts over his career. He appeared in 15 games for the Steelers last season but did not make a start.
With Cameron Heyward aging and Montravious Adams still a free agent, the Steeles are thin up front on the interior of the defensive line. They have rookie Keeanu Benton under contract for the next three years but will likely need to add more help up front this offseason.
