ALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions will officially employ a long snapper this season, inking Scott Daly to a one-year deal.
Daly earned the job by beating out the legendary Don Muhlbach during training camp in 2021, but suffered a knee injury that limited him to eight games last season. He was replaced by Jake McQuaide, who remains unsigned.
With Daly now back under contract, Detroit returns all three specialists intact next season, along with kicker Michael Badgley and punter/holder Jack Fox. Coordinator Dave Fipp also returns next year.
Lionsw “(Daly is) just a steady rock for us,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said. “And he’s improved every year. He was having the best year that we’ve had.”
Daly is the latest Lions player who signed a new deal with the team in the last week, including guard Graham Glasgow, special teams star Jalen Reeves-Maybin, cornerback Emmanuel Moseley, offensive lineman Dan Skipper, cornerback Khalil Dorsey and tight end Shane Zylstra. Detroit has added to that mix by trading for cornerback Carlton Davis and signing cornerback Amik Robertson, defensive end Marcus Davenport and nose tackle DJ Reader. It also tendered restricted free-agent tight end Brock Wright.
