Prosecutors announced new charges on Thursday
The Jackson County Prosecutor, Jean Peters Baker, announced on Thursday that Young was charged with second-degree felony murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and armed criminal action.
The announcement also included charges against a 15-year-old who may be tried as an adult.
The shooting, which took place outside Union Station, resulted in the injury of at least 25 individuals, half of whom were children.
Among the victims was Lisa Lopez-Galvan, a 43-year-old mother of two and a local radio DJ, who tragically lost her life in the incident.
Surveillance footage shows how shooting started
According to prosecutors, the shooting erupted from an argument during the celebration outside Union Station on February 14th.
Surveillance footage allegedly shows Young brandishing a firearm and firing several shots towards members of another group before fleeing the scene.
Detectives were able to identify Young through distinct characteristics, including a unique backpack depicted in social media videos.
Young’s arrest follows the charging of Lyndell Mays, 23, and Dominic Miller, 18, both of whom were previously charged with second-degree felony murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
Prosecutors allege that Mays initiated the gunfire, leading to Lopez-Galvan’s tragic death.
Under Missouri law, individuals involved in the commission of a dangerous felony resulting in death can face charges, even if they did not directly pull the trigger.
The recent charges against Young underscore the authorities’ commitment to holding all accountable for their roles in the violent incident.
Young’s arrest brings a sense of closure to a community still reeling from the tragic events of that day.
While all individuals identified as shooters have been apprehended, the investigation remains ongoing, with the possibility of additional charges looming.
