Mississippi State Bulldogs star running back Jo’Quavious ‘Woody’ Marks will enter the transfer portal, he announced on social media Friday.
A former 4-star recruit from the 2020 recruiting cycle, Marks was a staple in the Bulldogs’ running game, appearing in over 40 games and achieving over 3,000 career yards during his tenure in Starkville. He ranks first in program history in both career receptions and receiving yards by a running back.
His production has dipped a bit in 2023 due to missing three games with a leg injury, but has nevertheless been a huge playmaker for the Bulldogs when on the field. During the 2023 season, he had 121 carries, leading the team for 573 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns while averaging 4.7 yards per carry.
With Marks now planning to take his talents elsewhere, the Bulldogs now have 11 players in the transfer portal since the portal opened on Dec. 4. Bulldog running back Simeon Price has also entered the transfer portal, leaving junior Jeffery Pittman and freshman Seth Davis as the only two remaining running backs on the Bulldogs’ depth chart.
Wide receiver Zavion Thomas entered the portal earlier this week while starting quarterback Will Rogers has been in the portal since Nov. 24, with a strong crystal ball prediction to Washington, according to 247 Sports.
The transfer portal has only started to heat up this week, and new Bulldog head coach Jeff Lebby has a lot of work to do with the roster with several key players from 2023 either transferring or exhausting their eligibility.
