Former Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards says LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels would lead the New England Patriots differently than Tom Brady if the Patriots select him with the No. 3 pick of the 2024 draft.
“He’s outgoing, but he’s not loud. He’s real calm,” Edwards said, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss. “He’s not a confrontation guy, like you saw with Tom Brady. He’s more the type of come over and talk to the guys and get it squared away. When it’s going hot and it’s hard, there is no panic in this dude.”
Edwards coached Daniels for three seasons at Arizona State prior to Daniels’ transfer to LSU in 2022.
Daniels went on to throw a career-high 3,812 passing yards and for 40 touchdowns and four interceptions in his Heisman Trophy-winning 2023 campaign for the Fighting Tigers.
The last Heisman winner from LSU, Joe Burrow, was selected with the top pick of the 2020 draft.
Luckily for the Patriots, Daniels is projected to go slightly lower.
The B/R NFL Scouting Department ranked Daniels as the No. 3 quarterback prospect in the upcoming draft, behind North Carolina’s Drake Maye and USC’s Caleb Williams. That means it’s possible the LSU star will still be available by the time the Patriots are on the clock.
The Patriots are looking to bolster a quarterback room currently led by Jacoby Brissett and Bailey Zappe with a new franchise signal-caller. Daniels could be the answer, even if his leadership style differs from what Brady used to lead the Patriots for the better part of two decades.
