Due to a persistent ankle issue, the former Spain international was forced to give up playing.

Michu, a former star of the Premier League, announced on social media on Tuesday that he was retiring from football due to an ankle injury.

Throughout his 14-year professional career, the 31-year-old was successful, playing for Swansea, Celta, and Rayo Vallecano in particular.

Additionally, he made one appearance for Spain against Belarus in a World Cup qualifying match.

“According to medical reports, the current situation of my right ankle has come to a point where is [sic] has forced me to say goodbye to you as a professional football player today,” he wrote in a letter.
