Heartbreak: The Green Bay Packers greatest player of all time has terminated his contract to sign a new contract.
Heartbreak: The best player in Green Bay Packers history has ended his current deal to negotiate a new one.
The MVP from last season appears to have pledged his future to the Packers as they pursue their first title since 2010, following weeks of haggling over a new contract.
Rodgers’ cap figure will drop by $46.6 million in the four-year agreement, but he will allegedly receive a guaranteed $153 million.
Last season, Rodgers was outstanding, leading his club to the NFC championship game.
But their heartbreaking Super Bowl bid came to an end on January 21, when the San Francisco 49ers defeated them 13-10 at Lambeau Field.
In 2021, Rodgers passed for 4,115 yards and 37 touchdowns. He also had excellent ball protection, throwing just four interceptions.
The Denver Broncos were said to be interested in attempting to entice Rodgers away from Green Bay, where he had played for the previous seventeen NFL seasons.
In January, following playoff disappointment, the four-time MVP and ten-time Pro Bowl player declined to pledge his future to Green Bay.
There was even conjecture that he might hang up his pads and give up football.
But with word that he will remain at Lambeau Field, 2020 Draft pick Jordan Love’s future is still unknown.
With almost $30 million over their salary cap, the Packers were approaching the March 16 deadline.
That issue will be resolved with the extension, though, as Davante Adams, Rodgers’ primary weapon, also appears to be staying in Green Bay.
