Due to the misunderstanding the loyal player of Rutgers has terminated his contract to sign a new contract
Prominent New Jersey sports columnist Steve Politi summed up the startling turn of events on Nov. 20, 2012, the day Rutgers accepted an invitation to join the Big Ten, as follows: “At long last, the Scarlet Knights have won a title.” They are the Realignment National Champions.
Rutgers, the New Jersey school that memorably won collegiate football’s inaugural game in 1869, miraculously left the collapsing Big East for the most profitable league in the sport, all thanks to a wave of then-commissioner Jim Delany’s wand. Even ten years later, Delany’s choice to invite Rutgers was riskier and more divisive because the Big Ten had now gained four institutions from the other side of the nation: USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington.
Chris Long, a wide receiver for the Rutgers football team, underwent surgery this week and is gone for the season.
After the season’s first victory over Northwestern, Long has not participated in any games. In that, he had two receptions for 28 yards.
Head coach Greg Schiano stated that the surgery was performed to treat a lower body issue. A thin wide receiver depth chart is dealt a blow by the injury.
This season, Long was expected to play a significant role in Rutgers’ passing game.
At SHI Stadium on Saturday, Rutgers takes on Ohio State, ranked #1 (12:00 PM ET, CBS). Two weeks earlier, Rutgers’ victory over Indiana secured bowl eligibility, improving them to 6-2 (3-2 Big Ten).
The offense has continued to progress despite Long’s loss.
