Good news: Louisville Cardinal players have nominated a star player among their team players as their new head coach in the next two to three days.

Good news: In the next two to three days, Louisville Cardinal players will choose a standout member of their squad to serve as their new head coach.

Much of this will be repeating if you listen to the Twitter space from last night. That’s okay if you didn’t; I still love you.

The situation of the Louisville basketball coaching search, as I know it stands at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, is as follows:

I think Josh Schertz can have the job if he wants it after speaking with people close to both the U of L search and him on Monday night.

Two items are here:

1) Indiana State is still coached by Schertz. Tonight at nine, the Sycamores will meet Cincinnati in the NIT quarterfinals. That clearly makes things somewhat more complicated.

It was generally believed that Schertz was on his way to Saint Louis before the “Dusty Debacle.” Schertz might still choose to stay with SLU, and the aftermath of yesterday’s “death threats debacle” might influence that choice. He might have also genuinely signed a memorandum of understanding with SLU, which would have cost seven figures to break.

I have no idea when this decision will be made, but Josh Heird will probably want an explanation as soon as possible, either way.

Two main candidates Louisville will select if Schertz declines the position are Richard Pitino of New Mexico and Pat Kelsey of Charleston. Either, I think, would take the position.

Josh Heird spoke with Shaheen Holloway of Seton Hall and Amir Abdur-Rahim of South Florida directly during the past three days. Encouraged by people helping with the search, Heird also had a conversation with McNeese State head coach Will Wade’s representative. As I write this, Wade is not being taken into consideration, and as of right now, no follow-up conversations have taken place with the other two.

Holloway might yet be a contender. At least some talk is also about Niko Medved of Colorado State.

Louisville also asked at least a cursory question about Shaka Smart of Marquette and was told unequivocally that he was not a possibility.
