If he is not fired, I will leave the Texas Longhorns head coach, as he has a misunderstanding with his player.

Though it took nearly a month, the University of Texas had just one choice after he was jailed for choking his fiancée: the school’s lawyers would handle the paperwork.

The reason UT placed him on unpaid administrative leave was evident.

Beard “choked me, threw me off the bed, bit me, left bruises all over my leg, threw me around, and went nuts,” his fiancée Randi Trew reported to police the night of the incident.

Beard choked her for around five seconds, she told the police that evening. Though photos of her injuries were included in the police report, she later claimed that Beard did not choke her and that his actions were in self-defense.

She reportedly smacked him during a dispute.

Beard loses a $35 million buyout because Texas announced that the firing was for cause.

Never should a guy physically abuse a woman.

Beard was liked, and there was no sign of such behavior during his one season at UALR. The man is free to coach flat out, but attacking anyone is not appropriate.

The 49-year-old Beard has records of 29-13 at Texas, 112-55 at Texas Tech (when the coach guided the Red Raiders to the Final Four), and 30-5-0 at UALR. He was 237-98 overall as a head coach, and now he departs UT in the same manner as his Indiana mentor Bob Knight departed, under a cloud.

Texas offered him just one choice. Thursday was its use by the Longhorns.

Wednesday night, Missouri was allowing the Arkansas Razorbacks to shoot threes for a reason.

That isn’t a team strength.

With Nick Smith out of the picture, opponents will be using a lot of zone defense against Arkansas.

Realizing what was going fast, Eric Musselman entered Morrilton native and true freshman Joseph Pinion into the game. Gifted shooter Pinion scored 13 points, making 3 of 6 three-pointers, as Arkansas prevailed 74-68.

One thing that always appears ready to step up about these Razorbacks—who outscored the Tigers 47-34 in the second half—is that someone. Ricky Council might be there one evening, Jordan Walsh or Anthony Black the next.

Arkansas was 4 of 9 behind the arc in the second half after being 2 of 12 in the first. They were more aggressive in their goal-attacking, took more shots overall, and played a superior defense.

Bobby Petrino spent less than a month in Las Vegas as Barry Odom’s offensive coordinator before moving to Texas A&M to take up the same role with Jimbo Fisher, which was a little surprising but not astonishing.

Probably making more with the Aggies than Odom does as head coach of the Rebels, the former head coach of Arkansas and Louisville was most recently at Missouri State.

It is hard to picture Petrino as an assistant, but it is only one man’s opinion.

Having not worked as an assistant in over 20 years, he is used to doing things when, where, and how he chooses.

Petrino will give a lot of SEC defensive coordinators nightmares because of his excellent football brain. Furthermore, he is detail-oriented.

In forty years, this is his twenty-first coaching position.

After leaving Arkansas under a cloud, Petrino returned to the Little Rock Touchdown Club and expressed his regret for upsetting his family, the school, and its ardent supporters.

Since he left the UA more than ten years ago, it’s time someone removed his neck brace-wearing photo from the internet.
